I think it is impossible to hula with a kids store bought cheap hula hoop from the store. I made my own. Had some friends over and we all made a hula hoop. Much heavier and larger than the store bought kind. Instructions can be found online and price per hula hoop is only about $7 I have made 5 and still have material for at least another 3. You have to get PVC about 1-1.5" google how to make your own!

I haven't in years either. I bought one and tried but couldn't keep the hoop up...could it be that I'm too out of shape or maybe a bad hoop???
